My husband''s maternal Great-grandfather, George Washington Hinzman, snuck out of the house in the middle of the night to enlist. He did not have parental permission to join up. He was spurred to enlist because the Confederates had burned much of the timber on his father''s farm. He was 20 years old and was wounded three times.
